Microneedling

Microneedling is a noninvasive procedure that uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. The punctures from the needles stimulate our body's natural wound healing process and encourage collagen and elastin production. Microneedling is known to improve skin text texture, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, improve the appearance of scars, reduce the size of pores, and reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate for microneedling? Medical microneedling is safe to use on all skin types and colors. The chance of change in pigmentation or post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation is minimal. Microneedling is not suitable for patients who have used Accutane (isotretinoin) within the last three months, have open wounds, cuts or abrasions, have had radiation skin treatment within the last year, are suffering from any skin infection, condition, or herpes simplex in the area of concern, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have any history of keloid or hypertrophic scars or poor wound healing.

What is the downtime after microneedling? Clients tend to be bright red immediately after the treatment. Inflammation of the skin is temporary and reduces significantly within a few hours. It may remain slightly pink for up to 48 hours after treatment, and there may be pinpoint bleeding and/or bruising. Makeup use should be limited to mineral makeup. Skin will be noticeably smoother and more radiant within a week or two.

When will I see the results? Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after a treatment as collagen production continues.

Is microneedling painful? Prior to the treatment, numbing cream can be applied to minimize the pain that is felt during the procedure.

What areas can be treated? Common places for microneedling are the face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and back.

How many treatments will I need? The amount of treatments needed depends on the severity of the condition. It is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 3-4 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. Some patients only require a single treatment once per year to achieve optimal results.
