About Dr. Root

Daniel Root, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist with Clear Choice Dermatology, seeing patients at the Warrenton location. With more than 15 years of experience, Dr. Root is known for his thoughtful, patient-focused, and holistic approach to dermatologic care. His interest in medicine was inspired in part by his father, the late Richard K. Root, MD, a renowned infectious disease specialist, whose influence helped shape Dr. Root’s own interest in infectious disease and its role in dermatology.

Dr. Root graduated at the top of his medical school class and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, recognizing outstanding academic achievement. He completed his dermatology residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, a major cancer referral center serving northern New England, where he developed broad expertise in dermatologic surgery, pharmacology, dermatopathology, and infectious disease.

In addition to his strong clinical and scientific foundation, Dr. Root brings a unique perspective from his background in the visual arts. A former ceramic artist, he applies the same creativity, attention to detail, and appreciation for form to dermatologic surgery, combining technical precision with an artistic eye to achieve thoughtful, natural-looking outcomes. He is also committed to taking the time to listen to his patients, explain treatment options clearly, and develop care plans tailored to their individual needs.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Root enjoys spending time with his wife of 27 years, who is an artist and therapist, and their family. He has coached youth soccer, including coaching his three children, each of whom played on state championship teams. His other interests include windsurfing, running, and surfing.
